Edie Manson worked the following schedule: Monday, 10 hours; Tuesday, 9 hours; Wednesday, 8 hours, 33 minutes; Thursday, 11 hours; Friday, 9 hours. The employer pays overtime for all time worked in excess of 40 hours per week.

Required:

Homework Answers

Answer #1

(a) Under quarter-hour method

Total hours worked = (10+9+8+11+9)hrs + 33 mins = 47 hrs 33 mins = 47 hrs 30 mins = 47.50 hrs

While dividing 33 with 15, the remainder is 3, hence, is should be round down to nearest multiple, i.e., 30 mins.

(b) Under hundredth-hour method

Total hours worked = (10+9+8+11+9)hrs + 33 mins = 47 hrs 33 mins = 47.55 hrs

The hours worked under hundredth-hour method is silghtly higher. Hence, hundredth-hour method is more favorable for Edie.
