There are two kinds of goodwill ie Economic Goodwill &
Accounting Goodwill .
- Economic Goodwill : Such kind of goodwill is
valued based on performance of the entity considering its various
economic factors . This is a theoretical value & does not have
any balance sheet impact.
- Accounting Goodwill : In case of acquisition ,
when the acquisition cost exceeds the fair market value of net
assets acquired ,such excess amount is called accounting goodwill.
Such value of goodwill is treated as intangible asset & is
recorded in balance sheet as per applicable accounting standards.
Impairment test is also applicable on such goodwill value.
