Executives on the audit committee are like captain on a ship. They are the professionals which plays a very important role in an audit committee.
They carriew out the plan and policies of the audit committee and makes sure that the committee works well towards its goal and also provides their expert advice whenever required.
Executive in the audit committee makes all the major appointments. They also negotiate whenever required.

Executives are the experts in their fields and have complete subject knowledge so, the role of an executive in an audit committee cannot be ignored and doesn't having executives on the committee always tends to defeat its purpose.
