Course: Canadian Income Tax
Goals of a Tax System
There are several goals that an income tax system may be aiming to achieve as laws are created, amended and deleted. These goals can be economic - like raising sufficient money to run the country, political - encouraging investment in the home country rather than in foreign countries and social - ensuring lower income taxpayers pay little or no tax.
Do some brief research and post what YOU think should be ONE goal of the Canadian income tax system, specifically as it relates to personal income tax.
Explain why you think this should be a goal.
Comment on whether the Canadian personal tax system is achieving this goal at the moment.
It would be great if you could give an example to prove the Goal that you have chosen to discuss - for example - the rules related to Allowable Business Investment Losses and how these rules are aimed at skewing investment decisions toward Canadian private corporations.

Firstly, we should know, why the government was collecting Taxes from the General Public It is nothing but the basic 3 Goals explained below:
1)To raise Revenue for Government Activities
2)To mitigate unequal distributions of wealth in the society
3)To regulate private economic activity.
Below are the few goals In my Point of view:
1) If the largest tax payers would be audited with the same enthusiasm as the poorest tax payers, that would be a way to make things easier and at least have people be less scared.
2) Tax System should be a like Progressive system i.e Richer will be taxed at Higher rate rather than the poor by introducing this system.
3)ordinary income and capital gains should be taxed at same rate., inorder to grow more capital gains by the general public Inspite of scaring at the tax rates used for taxing the capital gains.
