Rent expense is an expense account and every expense account had a debit balance, every person or business entity who rented any premises for carried on his business or operations on such rented premises than rent is accrued or to be paid in every month or as per the agreement made by lessor or lessee.
Hence, as per the "Nominal Account" of the Accounting, Debit all Expenses and Losses & Credit all Income and Gains.
So, according to this rule 'Rent Expense' is considered to be debited when making journal entry.
