They have selected a third party app that works with QuickBooks Online so that you can help manage their bookkeeping outside of their operational management system. Since Kaleb is concerned that Josh may mess something up if he has access to Quickbooks, he can go for Quickbooks Online Simple Start, which comes with Reports, Estimates, Tracking of income and expenses, Minimising tax deductions, Tracking sales and sales tax, etc. As for the functions to be performed by Josh, third party apps could be subscribed to for time and reporting. However, Reports are available on QuickBooks

Therefore, the more efficient way would be to go with QuickBooks Essentials
