my mother and i do not speak, but she is native american and i know that i can receive college grants being of the ethnicity....so i was wondering does anyone know how to prove it without having to speak to this women ?
p.s. if you wonder why we do not speak it is because she abandonded me 20 something years ago and wants to reconcile, but i still have harsh feelings towards her.

as a young girl i have always been told i have a lot of native american in me. I have been very proud of that and i love the native american culture and history. I was told when i was born my family could have done research and listed my race as native american india. but since my parents were going through a nasty divorce at the time it was never thought of. how would i go about changing my race and becoming native american? I thought i could go through my family tree and find proof..some of my great great grandparents were registered native americans....idk what to you all think? what could i do? both my parents were listed as white/Caucasian.. but both had native american ancestors?

My friend and I were wondering if it is possible to adopt a native american child. Neither of us are currently looking into adoption, but it cam up in conversation a few days ago and we were just wondering if anyone knew any of the rules/regulations regarding it.
I know that most native american regions/reserves prefer to keep children within their family and culture, but is it possible for someone who is not native american to adopt a child who is native american (Cherokee, Navajo, Cree, etc.)?
Just curious, thanks :)

I'm trying to find as many Native American last names as I can. Comanche Indians are the ones I am more interested in.
Any websites, names, anything would help.
Thanks.
