After the towns/ villages got electricity, poor people could not afford for it. hence, poor students studies under street light. This is a practise even now.

After the advent of cost effective lamps, people could buy them. But, they filled the entire room with light.
For the sake of Students, who had to study, the entire room has to glow.
This created the way for table lamps in India.

Table lamps provide controlled luminance. Their lumiance poweris felt only in the specific aresurrounging them. At farther distances, people can not feel the light/ heat.

As the light is more concentrated, others outside the focus can also concentrate on their sleep!!
The luminance is bright enough for the students can study their subject. Again, the brightness created some relief to the eye stresses.

But,the disadvantage of table light is that it consumes more power(as we use Bulbs)...

Hence, though Table Lamps are efficient, it is betterto use the Solar Energy, available at free of cost!!

This is really a stupid question but I'm just curious. :) I won't use it, but I might consider if it gets positive feedback. It has a clamp at the bottom with a flexible neck and a dome for the head. If you guys think it WOULD work, what kind of bulb would be best to use in it? A normal incandescent?

i just bought some lamps...........they are large, and base is shaped like a tear drop...........what lamp shade would look best............pictures would help..........thanks
