Londoners, are you a regular Theatre goer & which is your favourite Theatre...?

Tonight I went and saw Clifford Odets' The Country Girl (fabulous) at the
Apollo Theatre, and it's the Theatres that I would like to ask you about.

The beauty of our Theatres and Playhouses is second to none...they are spectacular!
Most are in 'Theatreland' and are of late Victorian/early Edwardian construction.
Do you agree that they are full of character, often featuring grand neo-classical
or Victorian facades with sumptuously detailed interior design and decoration

One of my favourites is the Fortune Theatre, home to The Woman in Black
for about twenty-one years now. Seating only about 432 bums, it first opened it's
doors in 1924,
This tiny intimate Theatre, with it's rickety stairs, spooky nooks & crannies, lends
itself perfectly to the current production, a ghost story with a great twist in the tail which all contribute to the wonderful ghostly atmosphere.

Why can't you say Macbeth in a theatre?
Asked By mellie,Last Answer By Cranach At 2009.12,1 Answers

It is hideously bad luck! The stories about the "Scots play" (as it is called by those who don't want to bring the wrath of the theatrical gods crashing down upon their heads) are pretty hair raising. A couple of examples from my experience --

A new theatre was built in St. Paul, Minnesota in the mid sixties. The first production in that theatre was the "Scots play." On opening night, the actor playing the title role was walking from the green room to the stage for an entrance and suffered a fatal heart attack on the threshold of the door into the wings.

At my college, a production of the play was scheduled for two weekends. The first weekend went well -- but somehow, one of the actors forgot about the second weekend and went out of town! I know this sounds weird, but there it is.

There are many more well-known and well documented instances of the curse in action. No one knows why this curse works -- but it seems to follow the play. But, as Shakespeare said in another play, "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

One important point -- to break the curse, you need to IMMEDIATELY turn around three times and walk out of the theatre before you say another word. You can then return and the curse will have been forestalled....for this time.

Whistling onstage is bad luck (again if you wanna know...)

Recently I found out that i am going to be playing the lead role in a play. Sometimes I get nervous and, well, tend to forget my lines. If you have any tips for non-nervous behavior before a performance, that would be great!

How can I make the best of a bad seat in the theatre?
Asked By Miranda W,Last Answer By HB At 2009.12,1 Answers

My friend is in a wheelchair, and our theatre seats are right at the back of the stalls. Row X! I've been told the seats don't have an overly restricted view, but just out of interest, how could a person make the most of not so great seats?

Biased Theatre Teacher, ugh...?

How do I deal with a drama teacher who always picks the same people for a play every time? She totally denies it, but she really does pick favorites. She's gotten many parent phone calls and emails, and she knows that everyone isn't happy with her.
