Hey so I am doing this project where I have to pick a prominent figure (has to be American though) in history.
I wanted to do the surfer Andy Irons because of his tragic death with dengue fever. But the official medical report won't be released till May. But I was wondering, is dengue fever (it's mosquito related) something that he caught from being in the ocean? Because if it isn't, I might have to choose another surfer. So does anyone know of any famous surfers who died because of some illness they caught from the ocean? That irony is kind of what I am looking for. Thanks (:

The rumour that Andy Irons had dengue fever is just that, there is a reason why his wife had gotten the courts to stop the release of the results of his autopsy until May to ensure that the Andy Irons brand is not tarnished by the results of it. If it was dengue fever, caught from mosquitos, there would be very little to cover up.
The most likely cause of his death is something relating to narcotics. I am not sure if there are any famous american surfers that have died because of an illness from the sea, I cannot think of any sorry
