Just wanted to get some feedback especially from those that have trained in both!

In addition to OK's good answer, I would like to add that an mma gym training is more geared toward competition versus active opponents, while a traditional martial arts school is more geared towards self defense. For example, at an MMA gym, you will always be wrapping your hands when you practice hitting bags and sparring. A traditional martial arts school will practice striking without wrapping, in order to strengthen the wrist and knuckles for real situation where 99.9% of the time your hands won't be wrapped.
