My brother recently picked up board shaping and creating.

so the question is this; If you were able to design your own custom board, and design you want on it, created 1 of a kind just for you, in 2 week at a pirce of roughly 250-300 dollares, would you think its a good deal?

hes becoming better and better at shaping and currently im the only person on earth with a black, reverse swallow tail, finger dotted board, and im getting it all for 150$

so im just curious if you think he is gonna be successful and if you would like that own custom idea, instead of manufactured boards by the thousands.

leave all comments and questions and of course, opinions.

Whether it is shaping surfboards, or building cabinets, or motorcycles, the quality and durability of the workmanship speaks fir itself.

A surfboard has to be technically correct, artistically pleasing and durable. If your brother has a good knowledge of hydrodynamics, has a good eye and hand with the sander, and work his way around the glassing booth as well as being a great surfer and able to test his shapes at their limit, then he will be a successful shaper.

If any of those factors are missing, I hope he has fun shaping boards, and has enough friends to pay for the price of materials to keep him at it as a hobby.

I have been surfing since 1966, and as a kid, my friends and I all pictured ourselves as successful shapers. The boards we made were terrible crap. But we had great fun making them. Good luck to your brother. If he is the "real deal", I have a design in mind that I am dying to find a willing and competent shaper to crank out for me.
