I don't know which makes me more annoyed. The question, or some of the dumb answers. I have been surfing for over 42 years, I'm 56 years old, and I live in Pennsylvania, not some tropic paradise. I pray every day that I will hit the lottery and be able to move to some tropic paradise, but for now, it's Philadelphia.
Sure enough, when I go south to surf in the winter, I wear bare feet or flip flops, like I do in New Jersey. When I go some places with rugged beaches or long walks to the beach, I wear sneakers.
When I go to work, or mow the lawn, or go to the grocery store, I wear the same footwear as other 56 year old dudes wear. I'm tired of hearing this "what do surfers where?" What you do in the water makes you a surfer, not what you wear. And all of us aren't kids, so kids may find we dress more like their parents than some stereotypical surfer dudes. I don't own any mocassins or Ugs (and probably never will).
