My nephew brought 2 baby Pond Turtles home 2 summers ago, when they were just 1/2" in diameter. One died a few weeks later, but the other one survived and has been kept in a 15" x 12" aquarium with 6 inches of filtered water and a rock to climb upon. (South Jersey)
It has grown so much (9" long) that it can no longer swim in its aquarium, it just sits in the water, and there is no room for a rock to climb onto. My sister's husband refuses to purchase a larger, more appropriate tank for it. Being an animal activist, I am deeply upset about this and think that this is cruel. They do let the turtle run loose in their enclosed patio a few hours a day, and it cuddles up to my brother in laws golf club (wood), probably thinking it's another turtle. It is fed "turtle food" from the pet store (little pellets).
My sister and I want to release it back into the pond it came from. What would be the proper way to do this? Would it's instincts take over and will it survive?

ok here we go
-someone gave me 2 common goldfish to look after (at the time they were tiny) for a month
-turns out the person doesn't want them ¬_¬
- theyr pretty huge now, the tank size is around 25 gallons (Its not enough cause they are big now!
- i have no bloody space for a big tank :(
- i tried giving them to a few pet stores.. non of them wanted the goldfish =
- i thought about setting them free but that's a) illegal and b) a danger to the fish and the eco system
- umm how i can get rid of them?
please no killing suggestions .. i don't have the heart to do that, if i had a pond i would of put them there.. but i don't so no pond suggestions please :)
