Freshwater tropical fish are all dying?

I have a 20 gallon tank that has been set up since Christmas. We have not had any trouble out of the tank or fish losing only two when it was first set up. All the levels and temp are the same as always. I have also been doing water changes like always. The tank recently developed green water. We were told it was from the light being on too much and to do often water changes and turn out the light. I uped the water changes and turned the light off more. This was four weeks ago. The tank is still green but now my fish are dying. We have lost three fish in three days and most of my mollies are very lathargic and laying on the bottom. I have an irridecent shark and an alge eater that are also very affected. The fish that are dying are looking very poor and bad when they die and there mouths have all been open. What could be going on and what do I do?

Are my freshwater fish mating?

I have three small fish in a 10 gallon tank. I don't know what type of freshwater fish they are, but they are base (color) with black stripes. One of them just hangs out by themselves, and the other two follow each other around constantly, sometimes even chasing each other. I would be thrilled if they had babies, but I don't know how to tell if they are "lovers" (mating) or just "friends". I would appreciate the help. Sorry I don't know what type of fish they are.

I just got home from being out of town for the weekend. I have a small tank with 4 fish a tetra, molly, platty and one other im not sure what kind. Usually when I leave I put a feeder in the bottom of the tank, its like a gel that puts food in the water i guess. Well I just got home and the platty was upside down gasping and the tatra is jumping around the molly is just laying on the bottom of the tank and the other one is moving really slow and has white fuzz on his face. They have a water fiter that pumps oxygen into the water as it cleans. What can I do now???

Why do my fish keep dying ?
Asked By Sarah,Last Answer By catx At 2010.01,1 Answers

Hey guys.
Well i've had my fish tank for just about a month now. I was told to leave the tank for two days before adding fish, which i done. It's a twenty litre tank, i have gravel in it and a small plant (it's not real), which i rinsed properly before i put in the tank. I had five fish in the tank - three tetra's, a guppy and molly. They were all fine, but in the last two days the guppy and the molly have both died.
I've been changing the water once a week like i was told to, i've been taking out about a third of the water and replacing it. I've also been adding "water safe" to the tank to make sure there's nothing harmful in the water.
What could be wrong that's killing the fish ? I'm not sure if it's because of high levels on ammonia, or if it's something else.
Sorry, i know it's quite a lot to read, but if anyone can help it would be much appreciated :) xxx

Why do my fish keep dying off!?!?

I have a 10 gallon tank. (i have NEVER had this problem before.)
It has sand, a 2 live plants, some fake plants, a decoration, a filter and heater.
First time: I let it run for a day with some conditioner, and the next day i got fish. My issue, i was stupid and for some reason i bought fish.
I have another tank so i let the fish hang around in that one while the other one settled with my snails.
They all died the next day. Everything.
I took 50% of the water out, cleaned almost everything, and put it back with some aquarium salt. I let it run for 3 days, (pluss the week before that)
I took a sample down to my petstore, and they said the ammonia was sort of high. So i got a tester and 2 live plants that "eat" the ammonia.
I put the tester in for about an hour and checked it again, it said "SAFE"
not green at all. safe.
So, i put my fish in from the top tank.
Today? One died.
i have the sand that doesnt have any of that bad stuff in it to hurt the fish. So i don't think thats the issue.
I'm not sure if i should move my fish to the top tank or not.
Oh- and the fish are guppies. And aparently the store has had some issues with their guppies.
whats wrong?
