I think that I'm answering my own question, but I'll ask anyway. On board nuclear powered naval vessels, they make their own freshwater. On gas turbine naval vessels, and even massive diesel civilian merchant vessels make their own freshwater.

Do those absurdly massive cruise ships make their own water as well? It only seems logical, the must have the power, if they're able to move the damn things around... but I've never actually heard of it. If they set sail with some giant freshwater reservoir, well... I don't know, silly question I'm sure.

I've been on two cruises now and wondered this both times. What if modern day pirates (for lack of a better term) try to board and take over the ship. I mean, cruise ships have lots of stuff worth stealing on them and lots of people worth robbing. It seems to me that out in international waters, this scenerio is not really that far fetched.

let me give a scenario:

pirates or terrorists whoever it may be decide to take over the ship. they board, attack, take the bridge, and take over the ship.

what stops such an attack from happening?. last time I went on a cruise, june 2008, I didn't see anyone with a security uniform or weapons and I can't take my own weapons on board and I'm sure the same goes to the other 2,000+ passengers. all I saw for security was a bunch of cameras onboard almost everywhere and well the US coast guard escort out of Long Beach but that was it
